EP3. Clever use of Image Switches and Shared Functions.

In this episode of Animating For Life, I want to turn the attention to Toon Boom Harmony’s functions called Image Switches and Shared Functions. In this example tutorial I’ll be showing you how to solve common 2D depth sorting issues by clever use of Image Switches and Shared Functions - so that the animators don’t have to get too technical when animating.

Cheers!

Toon Boom Harmony can be tricky. And some features are great, but they require additional work to really stand out. Here’s a little tutorial on how to first set up an arm for bending and animating with bones. Then how to solve the z sorting problems, what’s over and what’s under, that always arise at some point in 2D animation.

Cheers

This is my first episode in a series of short videos about making professional 2D animation, in a small studio. In this video I’ll be talking about how to set up an efficient workflow for painting backgrounds, based on digital storyboard.

In this series I’ll be using Toon Boom Harmony, Toon Boom Storyboard Pro, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop and Lightroom for software. And I’ll be using pencils, paper, japanese poster paint etc. for the background. I’ll also be touching upon topics like story telling, keeping animation work down and other related stuff.

Please check back once in a while, to follow the ongoing work with my animated short Tindra Setter Fyr.

cheers

The other day I officially started working on my animated short Tindra Setter Fyr. How would I translate that title? Twinkle On Fire? I’ve been writing on an eBook about the whole process, but now I’m thinking screw that. Who am I kidding? Blog is a better format.
So, from today on, I’ll be blogging about my work as an animator, giving hints and sharing conclusions etc. on my new blog that I just called Animating For Life.
Quite a pretentious title, you say? Yeah I know. But, there are few things that mean more to me than creating animation, and creating music. It’s life for me. This blog is dedicated to sharing all my conclusions, tricks, obstacles and hardships in creating animation.

Cheers for nowAndreas
